Hainford coffee morning & Grand Draw raises £3,001

Carolyn Atherton, Sara and David Smith and Ann Gillett, from Hainford in Norfolk, were inspired to fundraise for the new hospice after Sara heard our Head of Fundraising and Communications, Hugo Stevenson, speak about the project on Radio Norfolk.

They decided to organise a coffee morning at Hainford Church on Saturday 8th June and hold a Grand Draw. The community rallied together to buy and sell draw tickets and local businesses kindly donated prizes. By the time the date of the event came around, more than 3,500 tickets had been sold and over 800 more were bought on the day.

On the wet and windy morning of 8th June, the church was filled with lovely stalls selling plants, cakes, refreshments and homemade baked goods. It was also filled to capacity with people and there was a wonderful atmosphere. A signed Norwich City FC scarf was raffled off and a small auction held for some donated items; such as hand-crafted bird tables, floral displays and a huge fudge cake!

Hugo Stevenson attended to draw the raffle and tell people how their donations will help our campaign. Our Fundraising and Events Officer, Claire Feek, also went along to meet the organisers and talk to members of the community about our plans. Claire said, “It was a lovely, very well-attended event and having been in contact with the organisers from the start, I know how hard everyone has worked on this. £3,001 is a fantastic total to have raised and we are thrilled. We are grateful to everyone in the community of Hainford and beyond who played a part in achieving this success.”

Carolyn Atherton, who helped to organise the event, said, “We have been overwhelmed and truly delighted by the generosity of spirit, time and energy of all who have helped to ensure the success and enjoyment of the event.”
