Complementary Therapy
What are Complementary Therapies and How Can They Help?
Therapies are holistic and help balance mind, body and spirit. Therapies can support relaxation and wellbeing, reduce anxiety and stress and help manage symptoms including low mood and nausea.
At Priscilla Bacon Lodge, complementary therapies are available for both inpatients and outpatients.
Complementary Therapies Offered
Massage
Traditionally this is a hands-on therapy using touch to help release stress and tension in the body. We only offer light-touch massage/therapeutic approach routines, including M. Technique and CaLMS (Caring and Light Massage Support) for hands, for relaxation purposes and to support wellbeing.
Reflexology
An effective, holistic therapy used to promote good health and wellbeing. It works on the principle there are reflexology points on the feet, hands, face and ears, which correspond to each and every part of the body. We work on feet and hands with gentle stimulation of these points to promote relaxation, with an aim to reduce stress and tension in the body, and support symptom control.
Reiki
An ancient therapy based on the concept there is an energy flow within the body, which exists to support and maintains balance. By applying hands on therapy (either directly on, or just above the area to be treated) reiki can help initiate a deep relaxation response with the aim to rebalance mind, body and spirit.
Aromatherapy
An effective, holistic therapy using aromatic essential oils extracted from plants. Essential oils enter the body by absorption (within a massage oil), or by inhalation (with aromasticks). Aromatherapy can help with relaxation, and aims to support symptoms including, stress, low mood, sleep issues, anxiety, nausea and grief etc.
Aromasticks
We have a choice of aromasticks available, which we can offer as a standalone therapy, with aftercare advice and leaflet given. We are able to offer the following aromastick options including, Calm, Uplift, De-Stress, Nausea Relief, and Grief Support blends.
