Complementary Therapy

What are Complementary Therapies and How Can They Help?

Complementary therapies are treatments used alongside conventional medical care to enhance overall wellbeing.

These therapies are often holistic, focusing on the balance of mind, body, and spirit. They can help manage symptoms, reduce anxiety, stress, nausea and pain, elevate mood, and promote relaxation.

At Priscilla Bacon Lodge, complementary therapies are available for both inpatients and outpatients.

Complementary Therapies Offered

Massage (Light Touch)

A traditional hands-on therapy using gentle touch to relieve stress and tension in the body. We offer light-touch massage and the ‘M Technique’ for relaxation and wellbeing.

Reflexology

A holistic therapy designed to promote health and balance. It works on reflex points on the feet, hands, ears, and face, which correspond to specific areas of the body. Gentle stimulation of these points encourages relaxation, with the aim to reduce stress and tension in the body, support with symptoms, and restore equilibrium.

Reiki

An ancient therapy based on energy flow within the body to support and maintain balance. By applying hands-on therapy, (either directly on, or just above the area to be treated), Reiki can help initiate a deep relaxation response, with the aim to rebalance mind, body and spirit.

Aromatherapy

A holistic approach that uses essential oils extracted from plants for therapeutic purposes. Essential oils are absorbed through the skin during massage, or inhaled using aromasticks or sprays. Aromatherapy supports relaxation, and symptoms including stress, low mood, sleep issues, anxiety, nausea and grief.

Aromasticks

Aromastick inhalers contain therapeutic essential oils and are designed to support relaxation, stress management, and symptom control. We have a choice of aromasticks available, which we can offer as a stand-alone therapy, with aftercare advice and leaflet given. We are able to offer a choice of aromasticks to suit your needs and preferences. Ready-made blends include Calm, Uplift, De-Stress, Nausea Relief, and Grief Support.

Who Can Benefit from Complementary Therapies?

Most therapies are suitable for a wide range of individuals. However, the suitability of specific therapies may vary based on personal preferences and medical conditions. At times, certain therapies may not be appropriate due to medical considerations.

Your medical history is considered prior to us carrying out your therapy to ensure we provide safe, effective, and appropriate care.

To contact the Complementary Therapy Team, please ask your nurse, doctor or therapist for a referral.
