Ben takes on Seville Marathon in memory of his mum

We are incredibly grateful to Ben Cliffe for choosing to support us by running the Seville Marathon in memory of his mum, Sarah Cliffe, who sadly died in December 2021, following a 16-year battle with cancer.

Taking on his first ever marathon on 18th February 2024 wasn’t just a personal challenge for him, but also a fundraiser. Sarah had received care from the Priscilla Bacon Lodge team, and Ben wanted to recognise that in some way.

When launching his JustGiving fundraising page, he said, “They provided her with end of life care in her own home, and having met some of the specialists that cared for my mum in her final days; what I would say is they were absolutely incredible, and the recognition they deserve is far beyond what I can ever provide. What I am about to do will go some way towards the recognition they deserve.”

Ben felt compelled to honour his mum’s memory by undertaking challenging events; as despite the emotional weight of his loss, he found strength in her approach to life — living each day to the fullest.

Through his participation in the Seville Marathon, Ben has raised an impressive £2,267 – far exceeding his initial target of £1,000.

And he is not stopping there! Ben has further challenges planned, and we are looking forward to hearing about the next one.

His fantastic fundraising efforts will go towards enhancing the care for patients and their loved ones at Priscilla Bacon Lodge; including funding bereavement services, specialist equipment, enhanced catering, patient and family transport, and maintaining the beautiful gardens.
