Patron of the Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity, Lady Bacon, is an avid gardener and continues the legacy of her mother-in-law, renowned plantswoman Priscilla, Lady Bacon. The Priscilla Bacon name has been synonymous with gardens for decades, and this year, we have been lucky enough to attend several garden-related events to both raise vital funds and elevate the Charity’s profile.
We started with the annual Plant Lovers’ Day at Creake Abbey on Saturday 18th May. This event, known for drawing a large crowd of enthusiastic gardeners, saw all entry fees donated to our Charity. These funds have been dedicated to supporting art classes in the beautiful Priscilla Bacon Lodge gardens, offering patients and their loved ones a creative and therapeutic outlet.
We then headed to various areas of Norfolk, serving drinks and a delightful array of homemade treats at Open Garden events. An army of volunteer bakers contributed an impressive selection of cakes, scones, traybakes, flapjacks, sausage rolls, and more.
Despite a downpour on Sunday 26th May, supporters braved the rain at Stody Lodge and an enjoyable afternoon was had.
On Sunday 30th June, nearly 300 visitors came to explore the gardens at Kerdiston Manor. We held a garden voucher raffle, which was won by Mr Jones of Little Fransham.
The Bishop’s Garden Open Day on Sunday 7th July also drew 300 guests, despite intermittent rain showers. Athene Logan of Norwich was the lucky winner of the garden voucher raffle.
A new Open Garden event in Norwich on Sunday 21st July featured three stunning gardens on Bracondale, opening their gates for the first time. This fresh addition was a hit, contributing to the remarkable total of £9,245.69 raised across all five events.
Thank You
Our thanks go to all the garden owners and event organisers for having us, and to everyone who attended and supported us. A special thanks goes to our incredible volunteers, whose hard work and dedication made each event a success for the Charity.
