Norwich Half Marathon runners raise over £5,000
Congratulations and a huge thank you to our 8 participants in the Larking Gowen Norwich Half Marathon, which took place on an incredibly windy Sunday 24th November at the Norfolk Showground.
The following took part and raised the amazing total of £5,478 between them:
Kate Bartrum
Sharon Bradfield
Frazer Howman
Tom Morgan
Steve Nichols
Larisa Pupaza
Sophie Sayer
Tom Townshend
Some kindly shared with us how their run went, and why they chose to support us:
“I’m feeling incredibly excited after the run! It was definitely a tough challenge with the wind, but crossing the finish line felt amazing!” – Larisa
“Really enjoyed the run, half marathon is my favourite distance. I came 31st in my age group, I will take that. Obviously it was not about racing, it was about raising funds for Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity. Our family will forever be thankful for the care given to my dad when he was in Priscilla Bacon Lodge. He has now moved to a care home, which is down to the hard work of the team at the Lodge.” – Steve
“I’m fairly new to running, having started a couch to 5k course in 2019. 2020-2021 should have given me an ideal opportunity to embrace the new hobby, but it just didn’t happen! I then started running now and again with the Norwich Social Joggers.
In 2020, my very dear friend, Sadie, was diagnosed with a brain tumour, and that meant she needed more help, and even more friendship. Sadie started to decline a lot last year, and the running really helped me to focus whilst I knew I was losing my friend. I started running more and more, and then decided to sign up to the Norwich Half Marathon to help raise funds for Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity, as we knew Sadie would need the palliative care at some point.
Unfortunately, we lost Sadie in July of this year, but she loved her time at Priscilla Bacon Lodge. I continued with my running and upped my training in readiness for the race. I’m not a natural born distance runner, so the injuries have been many! The fundraising and knowing how strong Sadie had been throughout really helped to keep me going. It was a very emotional day, but I’m so very proud to have run the race, and to have raised over £700 for Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity.” – Sharon
