Our Haven

Priscilla Bacon Hospice - Planting for Priscilla

Category: Large garden

This land was originally a pre-war domestic tip, so you can only imagine what we dug up as well as compacted flint. It took us weeks just to double dig a border. We have lived here for 30 years and it was just a grassed field. It evolved more than was designed and we planted it all ourselves, often by trial and error, (no qualifications other than keen gardeners).

It’s a never ending project and we love it and it’s been invaluable to us in this period of lockdown, especially as we are having to shield. It’s a haven for wildlife: bees, butterflies, hedgehogs, frogs, much bird life… we won’t mention the slugs and snails!
