Building the future of hospice care in Norfolk and Waveney

We are raising £12.5m to build a desperately needed new hospice that will replace the current Priscilla Bacon Lodge, established some 40 years ago through a public fundraising campaign.

Despite its achievements, Priscilla Bacon Lodge is now inadequate both in scale and configuration, as the population of Norfolk has risen by 220,000 since it was built.

Against a requirement for 47-59 specialist palliative care beds, we have just 16 – all in Priscilla Bacon Lodge.
Ever-increasing demand – for inpatient beds as well as day and respite care – from a growing and ageing population means that greater capacity is desperately needed.

The new Priscilla Bacon Lodge will be built on an 8-acre site adjacent to the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital and will have the capacity for 24 inpatient beds. It will also offer improved day care facilities, with a wellness centre and gym, as well as the space to host a community hub to provide ‘virtual ward’ care for people being cared for in their homes.

The new hospice will also be a platform for education and research into palliative and end-of-life care, supporting improvements in provision locally and nationally.
