Brave nurse’s head shave at festival brings in £2,602

Janine Cott is a Senior Community Nurse working within the Hospice at Home team covering South Norfolk. Her role is to support end-of-life patients to die with dignity in their own homes. Yet, staying at home is not always possible and patients may need specialist inpatient care in a hospice. Janine recognised the desperate need for a new hospice for Norfolk and decided to help to fundraise for it by shaving her head!

Janine says, “My colleagues and I were talking about ways we could fundraise and I jokingly said I would shave my head! Then when I began to think about the idea, I remembered one of my patients who had lots of surgeries, but the thing that upset her most was losing her hair. I thought, if I can shave my head out of choice and raise some money, why not?” You can her more about what inspired Janine to take on the challenge in the video below.

Janine is also the First Aid Manager for the annual VW FAB Festival, which takes place at Strumpshaw Steam Museum over the August bank holiday weekend. Recognising this as a great opportunity to drum up support for her head shave, she decided to do it on stage at this year’s festival on 24th August.

This decision lead to VW FAB Festival kindly choosing Priscilla Bacon Hospice as the charity to benefit from all funds raised at this year’s event and we were given the opportunity to attend with a stand.

You can see footage of Janine’s head shave in the video below. The watching crowd were hugely generous and supportive of her efforts and more than a few tears were shed.

The current combined total raised by Janine’s head shave and other fundraising activities at the event stands at a very impressive £2,602. There is still time to sponsor Janine here.

We are also delighted to announce that the FAB Fest Crew have chosen to make us their permanent chosen charity, so we will be benefitting from funds raised at all their future events. We can’t wait to join them again, it was a really fun weekend. To book a camping pitch for 2020, please click here.
