Just £250,000 to go!

We’re delighted to announce that we are in touching distance of our fundraising target and need just another £250,000 to complete the construction, fitting-out and landscaping for the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge.

Sandra Dinneen, strategic project advisor for the charity, said: “We are thrilled that we are in touching distance of our fundraising target, which means that the new and much needed Priscilla Bacon Lodge is so close to completion.

“We anticipate the building being handed over by contractors in the summer and, following an intense period of fitting-out and equipping, we expect to welcome the first patients in late summer as we transition from the current facility to the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge.

“In addition to the work taking place within the building, huge progress is being made on the gardens and the landscaping of the eight-acre site to avoid any disruption after the new hospice has opened to patients.”

The new Lodge’s gardens will be an oasis for patients, their families, staff and volunteers, and will make a significant contribution to the wellbeing of all who come to the hospice. Each inpatient room will have direct access to a private garden area, with doors wide enough to wheel beds outside. Communal areas such as the dining room, lounges and chapel will lead onto and look over formal gardens and have views over the wildflower meadows and wider landscape.

Once the new hospice is complete the Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity will continue to enhance the experience of patients and their loved ones in the Lodge. The Charity will supplement the core services, which will continue to be funded and delivered by the NHS. These elements enrich care before, at the point of, and after death. Beyond this, the Charity will support research, education and training that will improve care at the new Lodge, in the community and across the county.

Sandra Dinneen continued; “As an independent charity, we have worked with partners within the NHS, as well as other institutions and charities, to help provide better coordination of services and to ensure these services are focussed on patients and their families. The new Priscilla Bacon Lodge will support a greater number of individuals and families affected by terminal or life-limiting illness, and will provide increased choice about end-of-life care. We urge the community in Norfolk to help us to raise the final £250,000 needed to complete the project and to pledge their support through volunteering and fundraising for the Charity, to help us to deliver the best possible end-of-life care to the people of Norfolk at the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge”.
