Malcolm’s 90 before 90 challenges

Inspirational 89-year-old Malcolm Metcalf, from Gorleston, is aiming to complete 90 amazing challenges before he turns 90 in December 2023.

So far, he has edited a newspaper, hosted a radio show, been clay pigeon shooting, made rock sweets in Great Yarmouth, ridden on the back of a Harley-Davidson, worked in a fish and chip shop, sung with a sea shanty choir, and completed a painting of Horsey Mill. He has also taken on quite a few animal-based challenges, including riding a horse for the first time, judging a dog show, feeding a turtle, and shearing a sheep.

Those still to tick off his list include flying on a 4-seater aircraft, being a passenger in a superfast car, and going on a big wheel. You might think Malcolm would deserve a well-earned rest after all this, but there is no stopping him, as he plans to write a book about his challenges afterwards!

Malcolm has raised money for several hospices and hospitals in the past, inspired by him having had a serious illness when he was younger, which left him bed-bound for over a year. His brother gave him a book about travel at the time, and Malcolm vowed that if he got better, that was what he wanted to do. He also wanted to do something in gratitude for the care that he received, and he says that his motto now is “Carpe diem – seize the day!” In 2022, he raised over £3,000 for us with an epic European train journey through 8 countries in 20 days.

Malcolm is aiming to raise a further £2,000 with his 90 challenges. You can sponsor him at the link below!
