Remembering Victor Hardwick

Victor Hardwick, one of our much-valued volunteers, sadly passed away on 23rd December 2023. We are posting this tribute to him, written by Zoe Williams-Barr, who previously managed our Stalham shop and worked alongside Victor.

“Victor first approached me when I managed the Stalham shop, to volunteer his PAT testing service, free of charge. Over the years, he collected our donated electricals, testing and repairing any he could. This meant we were able to sell our donations with confidence, and because of his actions, the shop raised thousands of pounds to help build the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge.

Victor would always surprise us with extraordinary donations; I shall never forget the ninety one Great Yarmouth Pottery tankards, all individual, all in mint condition; or the beautiful crystal punch bowl, which was bought by a holiday-maker and ended up in Spain. He would replace the batteries in watches, toys and anything else he could get his hands on. The photo shows Victor wearing a child’s policeman’s helmet, which was off to have a new battery, so the light flashed.

Victor will be greatly missed, and I offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends – Wendy and Malcolm, (of fundraising fame.)

Fundraising for a huge project such as the Priscilla Bacon Lodge requires a massive effort on behalf of lots of people. Victor made a difference and I am proud to have met him, and so grateful to have had him as part of my volunteer/fundraising team.”

Victor’s funeral is at 1.00pm on Friday 12th January 2024, at Gorleston Crematorium.
