- New hospice appeal hits £7.35m!
Our campaign to build a specialist hospice in Norfolk is one step closer to its goal, as the appeal has reached £7.35m!
The £12.5m Priscilla Bacon Hospice fundraising campaign was launched in February 2019. Once built, the state-of-the-art palliative care unit, containing 24 beds, day patient and outreach facilities, next to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, will replace the 40-year-old Priscilla Bacon Lodge on Unthank Road, Norwich.
Sandra Dinneen, our Strategic Project Advisor explained: “In the current economic climate, we are continually thrilled by the support we receive from across Norfolk, Waveney and beyond. With £650,000 raised since October in our £3 to Break Ground campaign, we are getting ever closer to the £8 million threshold, which will allow us to start building the new hospice in this year”.
We have just launched two new fundraising activities to help us reach the goal. We are looking for keen photographers who would like to see their photos reproduced in a new charity calendar. Hugo Stevenson, our Head of Fundraising and Communications said: “We wanted to organise an activity that was open to all and would capture positive images from our local environment, homes, or gardens during lockdown. We have chosen the following themes for the competition; ‘Norfolk’, ‘Compassion’, ‘Pink’ and ‘Snowdrops’. Just as the snowdrop symbolises hope, being the first flower to bloom after winter, we believe these everyday images will capture a spirit of hopefulness for the future. The best images will be reproduced in our 2022 charity calendar, and as a selection of greetings cards to raise funds for the appeal.”
We have teamed up with local photographer, Julia Holland from All About Image, who has kindly agreed to provide a photo shoot for the winning entrant and will judge the competition. In conjunction with the photo shoot, a makeup and styling session has been offered by long-term charity supporter Jarrold, to help make the winner’s experience even more memorable.
Julia Holland from All About Image said; “I am very pleased that I am able to help Priscilla Bacon Hospice with their photographic competition. I really look forward to seeing the photos, then judging the winner and choosing those which will be reproduced in the calendar and on the cards. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful county and hope that the local environment will provide inspiration to all entrants”.
The photography competition is open to amateurs and professionals alike and there is a separate judging category for children up to the age of 13. Entry closes on Wednesday 31st March 2021. We are suggesting a donation of £3.00 for each submitted image for entrants over the age of 13, which will help raise funds for the new hospice.
More info and enterWith lockdown Valentine’s Day fast approaching, and typically more than £1 billion spent in the UK each year on this celebration, we are asking people to look beyond chocolates and flowers this year and think about showing their love to Priscilla Bacon Hospice.
To celebrate love and remind those we care about of what they mean to us, we are encouraging dedications to someone special via a Virtual Love Heart. A message, an optional photo, and declaration of your love can be added in exchange for a donation, which will help to build the new hospice.
